It takes about 4 months for the implant to bond with the bone in a process called osseointegration.

Is there any information I should provide to the Doctor before having a Dental Implant placed?
Yes, the doctor needs to know about any medical condition and all of the medications you take, blood thinners are the first ones that need to be mentioned. It is also vitally important to inform the doctor about your allergies.
Can the implant be placed after the extraction?
It can be done in very specific cases. The specialist would need to evaluate the images to determine if the implant can be placed after the tooth has been extracted. It could be done on front teeth as those have one single cone shaped root that allows the doctor to prep the area to receive the implant. This process needs a bone graft around the implant to help the bone with the osseointegration. The implants can't be placed after extracting back molars as those have multiple roots and it has to be grafted and wait until it heals before the implant can be placed.
